GSM

The MoTeC GSM Telemetry system uses two GSM phone radios, one mounted in the car and the other at a fixed location, often in the pits. The vehicle radio connects to the telemetry output of the ECU or data acquisition system. The pit radio connects to a PC which runs the MoTeC Telemetry Monitor software.

A mobile style antenna must be fitted to the outside of the car. If possible this should be in the middle of a large flat metal surface to provide a ground plane.

A GSM telemetry system consists of:

  • 1 x Vehicle aerial including mount and lead
  • 1 x Base station aerial
  • 1 x Aerial extension
  • 1 x FME/FME connector
  • 2 x GSM modem module
  • 2 x GSM telemetry adaptor
  • 1 x Power supply
  • 1 x Serial cable

SIM Card

You also need 2 SIM cards for installation in the modems.

The SIM card for the vehicle must be setup for digital data using 9600-baud transparent mode. This configuration is done when purchasing the SIM card, or may be changed by contacting the telephone company.

The SIM card for the modem in the pits requires no special options.
